Cité des Forges

Descriptive:

At the end of the 19th century, the emergence of a major iron and steel complex on the Adour Estuary led to far-reaching changes for the town of Tarnos. A major activity in the first half of the 20th century, attracting workers from all over France, the plant was also responsible for the creation of a whole ‘village’: the cité des Forges. The Church of Notre Dame des Forges, the school, the foreman’s house and the workers’ dwellings still bear witness to this industrial past, which is rather rare in the Landes.
